Oscar Salas will launch his second Okinawa restaurant at 1647 Richland Ave. West within weeks. Acropolis Pizza Restaurant once occupied this address before shuttering in February 2025, ending a run that spanned more than four decades.
On March 24, Salas mentioned he wanted doors open by late April. A sign already marks the property. This site will center on hibachi meals and bowls.
Salas has operated his first restaurant at 1695 Richland Ave. East since April 2024. That spot remains open. It serves hibachi entrees, sushi, bento boxes, and bowls with raw fish, cooked ingredients, or vegetables.
George Kritzas and his wife, Maria, launched Acropolis in 1983. They moved into a building where Pizza Villa once stood. Greek, Italian, and American dishes filled the menu for over 40 years.
Maria passed away in 2018. Customers remember her warmth. She made diners feel like family.
When the restaurant closed its doors for good, George talked about why. "I'm 71 years old. I have to retire at some point. It's time to step back. I'm going to miss it," he said, per the Aiken Standard.
Salas is growing his business less than two years after starting. Both restaurants sit along Richland Avenue, separated by roughly three miles.
