Augusta Regional Airport will process as many travelers in seven days as it typically handles across an entire month when golf week arrives. Between 30,000 and 40,000 passengers should pass through from April 5 through April 13.

Every department braces for the influx. The airport transforms into a worldwide destination. Officials coordinate with the FAA, securing extra air traffic controllers for these weeks that bring more flights than any other period throughout the year.

Additional flights from New York, Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, and other cities will pack the airspace. Staff additions will stretch across all operations, including airline workers, personnel managing private aircraft, and security teams.

Over 200 private jets should touch down that week. These aircraft will sit on the extra runway while the tournament is underway.

The Airport Rescue and Firefighting Department will operate on extended hours, adding a second station and boosting crew numbers for emergencies. Preparations intensify starting April 5. Extra flights depart and arrive from that date until April 13.

During a typical month, this location processes between 30,000 and 40,000 passengers. That volume compresses into one intense week when the Masters comes to town.
