Augusta Dream Center Requests Space Heater Donations as Winter Temperatures Drop
The Augusta Dream Center is urging space heater donations as the area faces another week of winter temperatures.

The Augusta Dream Center has asked the community for space heater donations as winter temperatures threaten vulnerable residents. Staff began preparing to help people stay warm before the weekend's cold weather arrived.
Workers at the center say they've received numerous calls from willing donors. The number of people seeking help has climbed during recent months, according to those who work there.
"As the weather started changing, we started getting calls. Many of our families have to decide, 'Am I going to get food, am I going to get my medicine, am I going to pay my utility bills?' And so people that have like gas heat especially, they'll go without getting their gas turned on. So, we started collecting the heaters so that we can help bring some warmth into those homes," said Director Kellie Newman, according to WRDW.
Newman explained that many households face difficult decisions. Food, medicine, or utility bills. Most can't afford all three. Families with gas heating systems often leave them off.
The center hopes to address this growing problem through increased outreach. Several space heater donations should arrive soon.
Workers are also distributing gloves and hats to combat the frigid air. These items complement the heater collection, offering complete protection against harsh winter conditions.
Anyone interested in donating can visit augustadreamcenter.org or come to the building in person. The center has set up an Amazon wishlist where supporters can buy items straight to the cause.
